MJ kids is a start up registered business with registration no. 2608130, that specialises in the production and sale of baby/toddler clothing with cotton African fabric, ankara. We currently focus on creating and offering ready to wear and custom-made designs for babies and toddlers between ages 0 months and 5 years in the modern and traditional range.
Established May 2018, MJ Kids was born out of the desire to bridge the gap between designs described as traditional and others described as western; a classification mostly made based on fabric. And to include children in their earlier days in the growing African children wear industry. We want to show case the versatility of the ankara fabric in its suitability for both traditional and western clothing. While there is a growing acceptance of ankara fabric in children clothing, children in 0-24 months are left out mostly as a result of the idea that the ankara fabric is harsh on their tender skin.
At MJ kids, we focus on choosing quality ankara fabrics, creating comfortable designs and tailoring every piece with a close attention to detail to ensure comfort for babies. We display the highest level of creativity by working with patterns on ankara fabrics to create beautiful children clothing without compromising on comfort especially for babies and their carer.
All of our garments are made with cotton ankara fabrics and proudly made in Nigeria complying with the international standard of decent work for all our workers and providing a reliable livelihood for our local tailors. Production in Nigeria is our way of contributing to house hold income of local tailors. Therefore be sure you are supporting a household when you buy any MJ Kids piece.
Finally, at MJ Kids we are dedicated to quality – we continuously search for ways to make the finest quality and most comfortable baby clothing possible. We flatten stitches and adopt sewing technics that conceal stitches on side seams as much as possible so that there’s no irritating inner seams. We also take time to stitch on every embellishments noting the vulnerability of children to pulling out and sticking things in their mouth while playing with attractive objects on their garments. We avoid the use of glue-on chemicals to prevent skin irritation.
